Taking it Back to Where it All Started
Uche Egele began her creative journey at a very young age, under the watchful eyes of her artistic mother; sewing clothes for her dolls at the tender age of 3. Fast forward several years, this same drive was the propelling factor that led to the conception of fun, bold and unique pieces for the Marté Egele line of leather accessories we know and love. Egele moved to the U.S, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Marketing along with a Professional Designation in Sales. After graduation, she immediately got accepted into the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) Los Angeles to study Womenswear. While there, she gained the necessary skills needed to become a successful designer in the fashion industry.
From The Netherlands to Nigeria
Marté Egele is the middle and last name of the founder and Creative Director, Uche Egele. She was born in Drenthe, The Netherlands and spent her teenage years in Nigeria before she moved to the US to study Marketing, Sales and Fashion Design in Womenswear. The fusion of African culture and Western styling led to the authentic look and feel of every genuine leather piece that’s crafted by African artisans.
A Creative Collaboration
Marté Egele is a leather accessories brand with the desire to create and cultivate unique, high- quality products. A proudly Made in Africa, leather accessories business that ensures every leather piece is carefully handcrafted by local Nigerian artisans, is also fun, and has a story to tell.
More Than A Handbag Range
Since its inception, the brand has expanded to include a range of leather handbags, small leather accessories and silk twill scarves. Marté Egele is based on a whimsical personality, bold colours and abstract shapes, applying the use of her love for the art deco era. Clean lines, defined proportions and a Made in Nigeria label are all elements that make Marté Egele the brand that it is today. Part of the mission is to support fashion manufacturing in Nigeria.
